| Working with the Office of the Third Sector in the Cabinet Office, the NCGE has commissioned training and support materials to enable Careers Advisors and Enterprise Officers to understand the increasing opportunity for graduates to take up a career in social enterprise. The materials have been prepared by Ingrid Bale of the University of Leeds and Andrew Ferguson of the University of York, and reflect the growing importance of social entrepreneurship in the UK economy: there are now an estimated 55,000 social enterprises with a combined turnover of 27 million pounds. Careers advisors and enterprise officers were given a preview of the materials at the Good Practice Workshop for Careers Professionals & Enterprise Support Staff in HE, organised by the NCGE on 10th Jan 08. The materials form an integrated toolkit, which can be customized for local use and will include powerpoint presentations, case studies, exercises, and role playing materials. Comprehensive sources of further assistance will be available, both nationally and regionally. It is anticipated that the toolkit will be available on the NCGE Careers Community website in February. |
