Abstract : The National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship (NCGE) was established in 2004 with the aim of raising the profile of entrepreneurship and the option of starting your own business as a career choice amongst students and graduates. In parallel to the emergence of the NCGE, the Higher Education Academy (hereafter the ‘Academy’) took the lead on a national pilot programme entitled Entrepreneurship Skills for Graduates. The programme aimed to facilitate the development of the undergraduate curriculum in a range of disciplines by putting in place the background information and materials needed to equip universities to teach the skills required to start and grow a business and contribute effectively to an organisation. The programme of activity encompassed discipline-focused projects undertaken in 10 Subject Centres and generic work undertaken centrally by the Higher Education Academy. A Senior Adviser and Project Officer from the Academy provided central coordination and support and The KSA Partnership evaluated the programme. Throughout the programme, an iterative process of evaluation has ensured that Subject Centre staff have been encouraged to refine and develop their activity, to respond to changing circumstances and to share the practice from their specific discipline with others. Typically, they have recognised that enterprise and entrepreneurship education is a dynamic and fast-paced agenda and they have placed a high value on the sharing of ideas and expertise across disciplines through the support structures put in place for the programme. Within this report, the sections The Programme in Practice and The Projects in Practice summarise what actually happened on the ground and identify key points from the learning recorded as a result of that practice. Key Messages focuses on the patterns that emerge from analysis of that learning and Recommendations and Action Required draws conclusions from those messages.
